Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Cheddar Bay Biscuits inspired by Red Lobster, perfect for pairing with soups or stews.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour, scoop and leveled
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) sugar, granulated
  • 1 tablespoon (14g) baking powder
  • 21/2 teaspoons (6g) garlic powder
  • 1/21/2 teaspoon (3g) kosher salt
  • 1/41/2 teaspoon (1g) cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups (170g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons (42g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon (3g) chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 1/21/2 teaspoon (1.5g) garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dough: Start by mixing the biscuit mix, shredded cheese, and seasoning until combined. You will notice a cheesy aroma wafting from the bowl; be careful not to overmix.
  2. Add the Liquid: Gently stir in the buttermilk until the mixture is moist but still slightly lumpy. You will see a creamy batter forming. If it feels too smooth, you might have overmixed.
  3. Scoop onto Baking Sheet: Spoon the dough onto a greased baking sheet, leaving some space between them. This helps them cook evenly and not stick together.
  4. Bake to Golden Perfection: Bake the biscuits until they are golden brown. Peek after 10 minutes; if they are just turning golden, that is your cue to take them out.
  5. Add Garlic Butter: While the biscuits are still warm, brush them with melted garlic butter. This step enhances the flavor and richness.
  6. Serve & Enjoy: Serve them right away to fully enjoy the flavors.

Notes

  • Storage Tips: Leftover biscuits can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. You can also freeze them either before or after baking.
  • Expert Tips: Use buttermilk for best flavor and texture. Avoid overworking the dough to prevent dense biscuits. Flour the biscuit cutter to avoid sticking. Freeze the biscuits for about 15 minutes before baking for improved texture.
  • Reheating Instructions: To reheat, place biscuits in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 5-10 minutes, or until warmed through.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve alongside creamy soups, pair with hearty stews, or use as a base for a biscuit sandwich.
  • Recipe Variations: Add cooked bacon bits for extra flavor, incorporate jalapeños for a spicy kick, or substitute half of the cheddar with a different cheese for variety.
  • Ingredient Notes: For buttermilk, mix regular milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar and let it stand for 5-10 minutes. Use fresh garlic for stronger flavors. When using dried parsley, remember that 1 tablespoon fresh is equal to 11/2 teaspoon dried.
