Description

Create your own mojito bar for parties with fresh ingredients and customizable options.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 fresh mint leaves, vibrant green
  • ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup
  • 2 oz (60 ml) white rum, good quality silver rum preferred
  • 1 oz (30 ml) lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 oz (30 ml) juice of choice (pineapple, grapefruit, or orange suggested)
  • 3 oz (90 ml) club soda, bubbly and good quality
  • Ice, crushed preferred for best chilling and dilution
  • Berries (blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries)
  • Soft fruit (mango, kiwi, pineapple)
  • Sugar cubes as alternative sweetener
  • Flavored syrups (hibiscus, ginger, berry, mint)
  • Garnishes: shredded coconut, candied ginger, dried citrus wheels, fresh lime wedges, extra mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In your serving glass, gently muddle 6 fresh mint leaves with ½ oz (15 ml) of simple syrup. Apply light pressure to release the mint’s natural aroma and essential oils without crushing the leaves and turning bitter. If mint flavor seems weak, muddle for about 10 seconds to intensify. Optionally, include some berries or soft fruit in the muddle to infuse additional flavor.
    Step 1
  2. Step 2: Pour in 2 oz (60 ml) white rum, 1 oz (30 ml) freshly squeezed lime juice, and 1 oz (30 ml) of your chosen juice. Stir these liquids together thoroughly before adding ice. This mixing order prevents premature dilution and ensures even flavor distribution.
    Step 2
  3. Step 3: Fill the glass with crushed ice, which chills the drink quickly and offers balanced dilution. Then, slowly pour in 3 oz (90 ml) club soda. Stir gently to combine without losing carbonation. If the drink tastes overly diluted, add ice cubes just before pouring club soda to keep flavors more concentrated.
    Step 3
  4. Step 4: Sample your mojito and adjust sweetness or mint intensity as desired. Add extra simple syrup or lime juice to balance the flavor—adding ½ oz (15 ml) more lime juice can reduce excessive sweetness. You may also add fresh berries, mint leaves, or fruit slices for personalized taste and presentation.
    Step 4

Notes

  • Room Temperature: Store fresh mint leaves and cut fruits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day to maintain freshness and flavor.
  • Refrigeration: Keep mint, syrups, and prepared juices in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Minimize air exposure to maintain quality.
  • Freezing: Pour simple syrup and juices into freezer-safe containers or bags. Freeze for up to 3 months and thaw slowly in the refrigerator before use. Leftover berries or diced soft fruits can also be frozen for future mojitos.
  • Use fresh, vibrant green mint leaves for the most refreshing aroma and flavor. Gently bruise them to release essential oils but avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness.
  • Crushed ice is preferred over cubes because it chills faster and dilutes the drink slightly for balanced taste.
  • Mix liquids before adding ice to avoid early dilution and to ensure syrup dissolves evenly.
  • If your mojito tastes too sweet, add an extra ½ oz (15 ml) lime juice to introduce a fresh acidity that balances sweetness.
  • Have extra lime wedges sliced for garnish; this not only enhances the presentation but also invites guests to add freshness as desired.
  • If you find your mojito overly diluted, add ice cubes just before pouring the club soda rather than filling the glass with ice first.
