Description
Delicious crispy heart-shaped roasted potatoes made in the air fryer, perfect for a fun and tasty side dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium russet potatoes, peeled
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) paprika
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) salt
- Pinch black pepper, freshly ground
- 3/4 tsp (3.75 ml) onion powder
- Metal heart-shaped cookie cutter
- Air fryer with basket
- Mixing bowl
Instructions
- Step 1: Slice the peeled potatoes into 1/2-inch (1.25 cm) thick slices. Maintain uniform thickness to ensure even cooking and consistent crispiness.

- Step 2: Using the metal heart-shaped cookie cutter, press gently into each potato slice to cut out heart shapes. Avoid pressing too hard to prevent tearing and maintain clean edges for better texture once cooked.

- Step 3: Place the heart-shaped potato pieces into a large mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of extra virgin olive oil along with paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and onion powder. Toss thoroughly until all pieces are well coated with the oil and seasoning, which helps flavor adherence and crisping.

- Step 4: Place the seasoned heart-shaped potatoes in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Leave space between each piece (approximately 4 pieces per batch) to allow proper air circulation for optimal crispiness. Do not overcrowd the basket.

- Step 5: Roast at 400°F (204°C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Shake the basket or turn the potato pieces halfway through cooking to promote even browning. Look for a golden brown color as an indicator of doneness and crisp texture.

Notes
- Storage Tips: After cooling, place the potatoes in an airtight container and keep at room temperature for up to 1 day to prevent sogginess.
- Refrigeration: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the air fryer before serving to maintain crispness.
- Freezing: Arrange cooled potatoes in a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge, then reheat in the air fryer for best results.
- If potatoes are not crisping during cooking, toss them with an additional teaspoon (5 ml) of olive oil about 5 minutes into roasting for extra crunch.
- To prevent torn heart shapes while cutting, apply gentle, even pressure with the cookie cutter.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) extra olive oil before air frying if seasoning is not sticking well.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket; keeping about 4 pieces per batch ensures even cooking.
- If potatoes appear undercooked, extend cooking time by 1-2 minutes while monitoring the golden color as a doneness cue.
